How to get more traffic with less content

As a busy business owner you are time poor. You don’t have the time to spend posting content on social media 24/7 when you are busy running a business. You can’t spend time capturing every meeting on video and getting permission from everyone that attends.

And that’s not even counting the hours it takes to resize images, add branding, edit video footage, captions, write the copy, add hashtags, schedule the posts or manually post them so that you can add stickers and trial reels.

There has to be a way to get more traffic with less content and there is. The short answer is advertising.

TL;DR?

Advertising skyrockets reach on social media

Advertising has the potential to reach so many more people than organic posting of photos and videos. Even better, advertising gives you the ability to target your audience carefully and reach the people who are most likely to want to use your service.

Instead of preparing a social media post or video, posting it, and waiting to see if the algorithm will be kind enough to show it to lots of people, you can make sure it gets shown to lots of people.

It will save you the pain of spending hours and hours every day creating content that doesn’t get seen by very many people. Nothing is more depressing.

Advertising has the ability to show your content to hundreds of thousands of people for less than a penny each. We regularly see posts achieve a £0.004 cost per engagement. That’s £400 to get 100,000 people engaging with your posts with reach and impressions of significantly more.

Advertising costs

I hear a common complaint that ‘advertising costs’ and I counter that with ‘so does time to create content for social media’.

If you, or an employee, spends time each day taking photos, recording video content and setting up the kind of trendy posts that social media platforms expect of full time creators that costs.

There is an opportunity cost when you as a business owner are spending time that could be used to further develop your business or to provide services. There is a wage cost when you pay an employee to produce social media posts.

That’s not to say that you or an employee can’t run ads for yourselves. There is a learning curve with advertising, understanding best practices and technical implementations. It is not rocket science, but it can be complex.

The benefit in using an advertising specialist is their knowledge of what strategic setup works to produce the best results from advertising. This comes from experience and running multiple accounts for different businesses.

More traffic for less content

Organic growth requires huge amounts of content produced and scheduled consistently on a daily basis to keep ahead of the curve with the algorithm changes. It can be drowned out by competing posts.

And here’s the kicker – there is no incentive for a social media platform to promote your organic content. They are in business to make money, not help you out. Their whole structure is designed to grow their business, not yours.

The key advantage to advertising is the difference it makes to content production. Strategically planned advertising shows your content to more people, and it does not require as much content as that required to encourage the algorithm to promote your posts.

You have two choices. Continue to bash out daily content for your business that is exhausting and can feel like a burden or run ads and reduce the level of content that is required. Even better, hire an expert in advertising who will know what works to make the most of your budget.
